Serviceplan Receives Phase II Grand Challenges Explorations Funding

31.05.2013
Serviceplan announced today that it will receive Phase II funding through Grand Challenges Explorations, an initiative created by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation that enables individuals worldwide to test bold ideas to address persistent health and development challenges. Serviceplan will continue to pursue an innovative global health research project, titled BeHere-BeThere. BeHere-BeThere is a project that takes advantage of the people’s existing habits, such as “checking-in”, and turns it into a donation, without actually asking the users to donate money. They donate with their physical and digital presence. They are there for the Sierra Leone children, for example, while being here in Berlin (London, Paris, Madrid, etc.)

  • Facit Digital conducts research into cultural differences in gesture control around the world Facit Digital conducts research into cultural differences in gesture control around the world22.05.2013 The new Samsung Galaxy S4 can do it, so can Smart TVs, and the Xbox Kinect has been able to do it for ages: gesture control. Facit Digital, the user research and user experience consultancy, is now publishing the results of a worldwide study into cultural differences in gesture control for consumer electronics. The study involved a total of 18 countries and was conducted together with UX Fellows, the network for user experience research that was founded by Facit Digital and currently has 23 partners. For the basic functions, such as adjusting volume or selecting channels, surprisingly similar spontaneous gestures were revealed all over the world. In the case of more complex operations, significant differences emerged between different countries. To summarize the first study in this field: gesture control is being enthusiastically received all over the world, but for products that are to be marketed internationally, user tests at a national level will be indispensable for acceptance. press release, May 22th 2013
