For 50 years, good has not been good enough for us. As the largest owner-managed agency group globally, we also strive to be a pioneer when it comes to sustainability - economically, ecologically, and socially. We and our entire team are now implementing concrete climate protection measures - not out of a pure sense of duty, but out of conviction.
"We bear responsibility not only for our clients and our colleagues. We want to and must contribute to preserving our world for future generations. Our commitment to climate protection does not yet go far enough for us. We are learning more every day and want to achieve more and more - in the spirit of a healthy environment and a sustainable economy. As an innovative, international group of agencies, we can and will achieve a lot."
Florian Haller, CEO Serviceplan Group
About 25% of our trips are made for internal meetings. We have therefore adapted the Serviceplan guidelines and will hold all future internal meetings across our locations using video conferencing.
The same applies to all external meetings with suppliers and service providers or initial applicant interviews.
We are also increasingly trying to hold client meetings via video.
Five short flight routes within a radius of 400 kilometres, such as the connections Munich-Frankfurt-Munich and Vienna-Munich-Vienna, can no longer be booked in our travel tool. Instead, we are changing to train connections.
In 2019 alone, we covered such short distances 562 times by plane. Next year we will save 150t CO2 without these flights.
With emissions of almost 300t CO2 per year, our vehicle fleet is a significant factor in our CO2 balance. By 2023, we will therefore switch completely to electric and hybrid vehicles.
From 2021 we will publish an annual climate report. It will contain all important information on the status of our sustainability measures as well as detailed emission values and future areas for optimization.
Campus events, training courses and our own platforms with tips on CO2 reduction support our employees on their way to a more sustainable work and lifestyle.
We offset emissions caused by events by supporting climate protection projects and thus contribute to achieving UN sustainability goals and global climate protection targets.
Only 100 days after the launch of the weGREEN initiative our locations in Germany are climate neutral. The remaining locations worldwide will then follow in the coming years.
Sustainable action consists not only of individual behavior. We therefore take a holistic view of our actions and the processes in the agency group and are gradually developing sustainable alternatives. In this way, we continuously reduce the emissions we cause. We offset the remaining emissions by supporting internationally recognized climate protection projects.
In 2020, we were able to compensate 5.125.400 kg CO2 by supporting a forest protection project in Brazil. The project aims to support small farmers in their fight against large soya plantation owners.
Because Brazilian land law allows people to easily appropriate, clear and cultivate land that has not been used by humans until now. As a result, the rainforest areas are declining dramatically. With the help of the supported forest protection project, the local small farmers officially receive land rights and the rainforest with its biodiversity is preserved. At the same time, this step secures the income of the farmers
ClimatePartner helps us precisely calculate our CO2 emissions and develop optimised measures for their reduction. Together, we are implementing targeted climate protection strategies and compensating CO2 emissions through certified climate protection projects.Find out more about ClimatePartner
"Every company causes CO2 emissions, however sustainable and economical its business activities. By offsetting these emissions it can become climate-neutral. Serviceplan supports high-quality climate protection projects, such as a hydroelectric power project in Congo, which, in addition to offsetting emissions, protects the habitat of mountain gorillas from deforestation. In this way, the Group makes an effective contribution to holistic climate protection".
Tristan A. Foerster, CEO ClimatePartner
Together with ClimatePartner, we established a "Corporate Carbon Footprint" for the Serviceplan Group in Germany for the year 2018. This is based on the strict guidelines of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard (GHG Protocol) and is an important element in the development of our climate protection strategy. It is only by knowing our carbon footprint that we can identify reduction potential and levers, define climate protection targets and implement appropriate measures to achieve these targets.
In total, our business activities caused 6,327 tons of CO2 in 2018. A value that we will reduce together.
Free rental bikes are available to all colleagues at the locations. Our company cars can also be used privately, which can make owning a car unnecessary. There is also an allowance for public transport tickets under certain conditions.
We only order office supplies in consolidated orders to avoid unnecessary transport routes. Our printers are also filled with recycled paper and purchased according to ecological criteria.
Our entire power supply is based on green electricity and we carefully separate our waste.
Only Fairtrade coffee and tea from sustainable cultivation are used in all coffee kitchens.
In the cafeterias we do without plastic dishes and cutlery and increasingly offer regional organic products.
Biodegradable cleaning products are used in the restrooms, including toilet paper and TORK paper towels with the ECO label, which are completely recycled and reprocessed in other forms.
We know that sustainable behavior is just as important for consumers as it is for us as an agency group. That is why we support our clients in successfully communicating their sustainability initiatives and measures.
