There are 285 million blind and visually impaired people worldwide, who for the last 20 years had no innovations in commuication technology available to them.Together with the South Korean company Dot Incorporation, Serviceplan Korea and Innovation developed the world's first Braille Smartwatch. The Braille Smartwatch has won a host of international awards, including a coveted Black Pencil at D&AD in 2017. Since its conception, the Dot Braille Smartwatch has utilised the benefits of the networked digital age for the benefit of blind and visually impaired people. The invention has had a global impact, connecting millions of blind and visually impaired people to mobile internet for the first time.

Dot Braille Smartwatch is a potentially life-enhancing innovation and technology connecting blind and visually impaired people around the world to mobile technology for the first time.

The challenge was to relate to the user experience of blind and visually impaired (BVMI) people. We overcame this by working closely with BVMI people from around the world, and listening carefully to their feedback.
